What's happening?

On the 4th May 2023 Salhouse has elections for District and Parish Councils.

Salhouse Parish Council:

We are an 11 seat Council. All current Councillors are stood down at the end of this election term. We currently have 8 Councillors. 4 Councillors is a minimum for the Parish Council to be quorate. A formal election is only held if more than 11 people in total stand. 

 

Do you qualify?

You must be:

 

a British citizen or a qualifying Commonwealth citizen or a European Union citizen and over 18 years of age.

 

In addition, you must meet at least one of four other criteria:

1. Be registered as a local government elector for the parish in which you wish to stand from the day of nomination onwards (i.e be on the electoral register - I can check for you if you are unsure).

2. Have occupied as owner or tenant any land or other premises in the parish area during the whole of the 12 months before the day of nomination.

3. Your main or only place of work during the 12 months prior to the day of their nomination and the day of election has been in the parish.

4. Have lived in the parish or within three miles of it during the whole of the 12 months before the day of nomination.

If you have been declared bankrupt, been sentenced to three months or more in jail or been found guilty of corruption or sexual offences you may be disqualified.  Follow the link at the bottom of the page to find out more information.

 

Dates:

Nominations open: 17th March 9am 

Nominations close: 4th April 4pm 

Nominations announced: 5th April - if more than 11 people apply then there will be an election.  If 11 or less apply then they will be able to stand for office.

Polling day - 4th May

Councillors take office - 9th May 2023

 

Completed nominations must be hand delivered to the Returning Officer, Broadland District Council / South Norfolk District Council, Horizon Centre (annex), Broadland Business Park, Peachman Way, Norwich, NR7 0WF and can be submitted on any work day from Friday 17 March until 4pm on Tuesday 4 April 2023 between the hours of 9 am to 4 pm - NOW CLOSED.
